Artist's Biography

Amalia Flaisher’s passion to paint on glass grew from her diverse background and studies in graphic design, metal-smithing, photography and silk painting.inspiration Looking for another creative medium to express her love of the colors and shapes she found within nature she explored the art of painting on glass and ultimately established Sand and Water Creations in Glass.

Although born in Romania, as a child she lived in Israel on the Mediterranean coastline. She remembers being mesmerized by the warm glow of the sun and the interaction of the deep blues and greens of the ocean. Today, her inspiration continues to come from nature and the infusion of light and color as she creates art that reflects the deep hues she remembers from her childhood. She models her style after the work of great artists like Kadinsky and Tiffany.

Amalia feels strongly that art should be enjoyed, not just displayed. “While glass crafting is a pure form of art, its splendor resides not only in the product but in the duality of its beauty and functionality. I have crafted each piece of glassware to be practical and useful.”Amalia at work in here studio

Artist's statement

I have chosen glass as my medium. I love to paint, and with glass as my canvas I can view the infusion of light and color through transparent glass refracting deep hues in all directions, like a sunlit beam through a stained glass window. infusion of color through glassAs my hand starts to draw and the piece begins to take shape, I am inspired by ideas that guide me and mold my art. I consider my work to be my music, and shapes, lines and color are my notes. As I look at an object, from still life to nature, I see with both eyes and soul.  My eyes capture reality, but my soul translates that essence into my art.

Kadinsky, one of the first creators of pure abstraction in modern art, has greatly influenced my work. I also draw inspiration from Tiffany, namely the functionality and architectural elements present in his artwork. Colors, shapes, and bold lines, are recurrent themes in my work and images I find myself returning to again and again. My passion for colors, especially the bright, warm glow of the sun and the deep blues and greens of the ocean derive from my youth living along the Mediterranean coast. Emulating nature in art through the synergy of light and color imploding inside each piece of my artwork is the joy and inspiration I draw from this craft. Each one of my art pieces takes on a unique and different look depending upon the angle in which the light penetrates or refracts off the glass.

While glass crafting is a pure form of art, its splendor resides not only in the product but in the duality of its beauty and functionality. I have crafted each piece of glassware to be practical and useful. I deeply believe that art should be enjoyed, not just displayed. Nothing gives me greater joy than returning home after a hard day’s work and setting the dinner table with dishes and cups that are bright, fanciful, aesthetic but useful. That brings a huge smile to my face and lifts the spirits of those around me.

May you derive the joy from glass artwork to enliven your home and nourish your soul.
